Being an Interior Designer, looking at numerous styles of design and how to apply them to a space can always be challenging. What I have learned the most throughout my travels is examining how different styles in each country develop. Sweden, just like a few other northern European countries, is known for their delightful Scandinavian home style. Key elements to this are bright spaces, multifunctional pieces, wooden décor & furniture, neutral colors and nature inspired. Going to Stockholm for the first time really proved how Scandinavian style comes to life all over the world. I have always been fond of this style of interior design, but after this short vacation and touring these four great home décor stores, I can gladly say it has grown on me even more.
Norrmalms Elektriska
A key factor to Scandinavian style in design is lighting. This store nails this concept perfectly. Including all forms of lamps, chandeliers and pendant lights, this shop is sure to spruce up your lighting game.
Gabil's Art
In the heart of the old part of Stockholm is a wonderful art store. Run by Gabil himself, he exhibits all of his unique and breathtaking oil paintings. If you want something to take back home from your trip to Stockholm, his art should be at the top of your list.
Affaren
A second store found in the older part of Stockholm is another lighting shop. Leaning away from the Scandinavian style, this store offers a more casual and colorful selection of lighting. One key aspect to be noted is the opportunity to make your own light fixture with an array of colors.
Svenskt Tenn
A multi-functional interior design store like this deserves to be noted. Including multiple showrooms, in-store custom textiles, and a exquisite selection of furniture, this shop has everything you need to furnish your home.
